Effective date: September 5, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Sontrove (“we”, “us”) about your use of the Sontrove service, website, and client applications (together, the “service”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Who may use the service
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country to use an online service without parental consent, whichever is higher. If you use the service on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you may accept these terms for it.
What the service is
Sontrove helps you manage and listen to your own media, stored on your own hardware — a device you run at home, with your own storage attached. We provide the account system, the software, and the connection infrastructure that lets your apps reach that device.
Two points matter for what you are agreeing to:
- We do not provide cloud storage for your media. Your files live on your device. Nothing in the service is a backup: if your device or its storage fails and you have no copy of your own, your media is gone. Keeping backups of your media is your responsibility.
- Reaching your device requires your device to be running and connected. On the same network as your device, listening works over a direct connection. Reaching it from another network requires a subscription and uses our relay infrastructure, which carries data in transit — it is not storage, and it does not make your device reachable while it is off or offline.
Features described on this website are what we offer today. Anything labelled as planned or coming soon is not part of what you are paying for or agreeing to.
Your account
You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information, for keeping your password and sign-in methods secure, and for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission. We may suspend or close an account that is being used in breach of these terms, or where we are required to do so by law.
You can delete your account from the Account page. See Account and data deletion for what deletion covers and what is retained.
Your media and your responsibility for it
You keep all rights in the media you store on your device. We do not claim ownership of it and we do not license it from you.
You are responsible for having the right to store, play, and transmit the media you use with the service. Do not use the service to store or distribute material you have no right to, or material that is unlawful. We operate a repeat-infringer policy and may suspend or close accounts that are used to infringe others’ rights repeatedly.
Because your media is on your own hardware, we do not review it and generally cannot see it. That is a limit on our knowledge, not a permission: your responsibility for what you do with the service is the same either way.
Acceptable use
Do not use the service to break the law, to attack, overload, or probe our infrastructure or anyone else’s, to work around limits, authentication, or billing, to resell or share access in ways these terms do not allow, or to interfere with other people’s use of the service.
Subscriptions and payment
Some capabilities — currently, reaching your device from outside its own network — require a paid subscription. Subscriptions are sold and billed through Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record. Paddle’s terms and its handling of payment details, tax, and invoices apply to the transaction; we do not store your card number.
If you buy a subscription: it renews for further periods until you cancel; you can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for; prices and applicable tax are shown before you confirm; and we will give notice before a price change takes effect for you. Refunds are handled according to Paddle’s policy and your rights under applicable consumer law.
If a payment fails or a subscription lapses, paid capabilities stop. Your account, your device, and your media are not deleted because of this, and listening on the same network as your device continues to work.
Third-party sign-in and services
If you sign in with Google, Facebook, or Apple, that provider authenticates you and shares limited profile information with us as described in our Privacy Policy. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for a third-party provider’s availability or decisions about your account with them.
Software
The Sontrove client applications and server software are licensed to you for use with the service, not sold. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or redistribute them except where that restriction is prohibited by law or permitted by the licence of an open-source component we include. Open-source components remain under their own licences, and those licences prevail over this section for the components they cover.
Availability, changes, and beta features
We aim to keep the service running well, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, add, or withdraw features. Where a change materially reduces a paid capability you are subscribed to, we will give reasonable notice, and you may cancel.
Features offered for testing or marked as experimental may change or be withdrawn without notice and are provided without any promise of reliability.
Disclaimers
Except where the law does not allow it, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will meet your requirements, that a connection to your device will be available at any given moment, or that media playback will be free of interruption. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, media, profits, or goodwill.
Loss of your media deserves a specific statement: we do not hold a copy of it, so we cannot restore it. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep the rights your local consumer law gives you, and nothing here reduces them.
Termination
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms, if your use puts the service or other users at risk, or if we are required to by law. Where the circumstances allow it, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put things right.
Sections that by their nature should survive — your responsibility for your media, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and any amounts already owed — continue to apply after your account ends.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When a change is material, we will update the effective date above and give notice through the service or by email before it takes effect for you. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms; if you do not accept them, you can cancel and delete your account.
